HID amphibious dredger operates efficiently in Gabon.

Gabon news Recently, HID Shipyard delivered an amphibious dredger to a Gabonese client, which has completed continuous high-intensity dredging operations on site. Facing complex conditions such as frequent tides, dense shallows and sensitive mangroves, the equipment has shown stable performance with an average daily dredging of 9,000 cubic metres and over 98% uptime, becoming a key tool for the efficient progress of the project.

Gabon has a long coastline, dense river networks and extensive mangroves, and sediment accumulation at river mouths directly affects navigation, flood control and ecological restoration. Traditional large cutter suction dredgers have a deep draught, making it difficult to enter shallows and intertidal zones; ordinary land excavators cannot work in water, often requiring cofferdams, work roads and auxiliary tugs, which are costly and time-consuming. The arrival of the HID amphibious dredger provides local clients with a more flexible and efficient solution.

On site, the HID amphibious dredger demonstrates unique amphibious capabilities: it can float to move during high tide and walk over mudflats, marshes and shallow waters on tracks at low tide, completing excavation, pumping and short-distance transport without relying on large auxiliary equipment. The equipment is equipped with environmentally friendly cutter/anti-diffusion cover/long-arm excavation system/mud pump system, allowing seamless switching between land, marsh, shallow and deep water according to conditions, minimising time spent on traditional tasks like waiting for tides, building work roads and adjusting equipment.

The project manager said: "Gabon’s river mouths have large tidal differences and heavy rainfall, so traditional equipment has very short effective operation time. The HID amphibious dredger can take every tidal window for continuous work, simplifying site management and significantly improving efficiency."
