Overcoming High Corrosion and High Hardness Conditions, HID Salt Dredging Vessel Sets Another Industry Milestone.
In the vast heart of the salt lake, the roar of machinery and the lapping of the water create a symphony of modern industry. Recently, a new high-powered salt dredging vessel, independently developed, designed, and built by HID Shipyard, officially began operation at the customer's construction site. This "underwater behemoth" not only marks another major technological breakthrough for HID Shipyard in the field of special engineering vessel design, but also solves the long-standing problem of efficient dredging for the user with its superior performance.
Salt lake dredging has always been considered a "high-difficulty test" for shipbuilding. High-concentration brine is extremely corrosive to the hull; the underwater salt layer is hard and complex, posing a severe challenge to cutting and dredging equipment; and the variable hydrological conditions require vessels to possess excellent stability and maneuverability.
Faced with these challenges, HID Shipyard's technical team did not choose a "generic design," but insisted on "tailor-made" solutions. In this salt dredging vessel design project, HID designers conducted multiple in-depth visits to the client's mining area to collect data on water quality, salt hardness, and lakebed topography. Based on this firsthand information, we broke away from the traditional design framework of dredgers, creating this "powerful tool" specifically designed to tackle hard salt layers.
Addressing the high hardness of the salt layer, the HID design team equipped the vessel with a high-strength, wear-resistant specialized cutter head. By optimizing the arrangement angle and cutting force of the cutter teeth, it can not only easily cut through dense crystalline salt but also significantly slow down the wear rate of the cutters, ensuring long-term continuous operation under harsh conditions. On-site data shows that its mining efficiency is nearly 30% higher than traditional equipment.
Considering the highly corrosive nature of the brine, HID comprehensively upgraded its material selection and coating processes. Key parts of the hull are made of duplex stainless steel, combined with HID's unique heavy-duty anti-corrosion coating system, giving the vessel a "golden shield," significantly extending its service life and reducing the client's maintenance costs.
