It does have a significant advantage in the cutting head of large electric dredgers (commonly known as "big cutter"), mainly due to its electric drive technology and profound design and manufacturing experience.

The main advantages of the large cutter of the electric dredger:


1. High performance and high torque:


Direct drive: The electric motor can directly drive the cutting head (or through a high-efficiency reducer), avoiding the loss of the hydraulic system during the energy conversion process (mechanical energy -> hydraulic energy -> mechanical energy) (usually up to 15-30%), significantly improving the energy utilization efficiency.


High starting torque: The motor can provide maximum torque at low speeds, which is crucial for cutting into hard materials such as hard clay, gravel, and even soft rock. It can overcome the initial resistance more quickly and improve the excavation efficiency.


Continuous and stable power output: Electric drive can provide very stable and continuous power output, unaffected by fluctuations in hydraulic oil temperature or changes in system efficiency, ensuring that the cutting head can perform at its best under various working conditions.


2. Excellent controllability and precision:


Precise speed control: Variable frequency drive technology enables extremely fine and rapid stepless adjustment of the cutting head's rotational speed. The operator can optimize the rotational speed in real time according to different substrates (from soft sand and mud to hard materials) to achieve the best cutting effect and production efficiency.


Torque control: It can precisely control the torque output to prevent overload damage to the equipment, and at the same time, it can better maintain the cutting force when encountering hard objects.


Fast response speed: The response speed of the electronic control system is much faster than that of the hydraulic system. It can adjust parameters more quickly based on sensor feedback (such as torque and vibration) to optimize the cutting process.


3. Lower operating costs:


High energy efficiency: As mentioned earlier, the efficiency of electric drive is much higher than that of hydraulic drive, directly reducing the power consumption (fuel cost) required to drive the cutting head.

Low maintenance cost


Simplified system: It eliminates the complex hydraulic power unit (high-pressure oil pump, valve group, cooler, oil tank, pipeline), hydraulic motor and its sealing system, significantly reducing potential leakage points and failure points.


Fewer wearing parts: There is no problem of hydraulic oil contamination and deterioration, and there is no need to replace expensive hydraulic oil and filters regularly.


High reliability: The structure of the electric motor itself is relatively simple, with low maintenance requirements and a long service life. The high-quality manufacturing of IHC further ensures its reliability.


Reduce downtime: Higher reliability and less maintenance requirements mean higher equipment availability and less unplanned downtime.


4. Significant environmental protection advantages:


Zero local emissions: When powered by shore power or the main generator of the ship, the electric cutting head itself does not produce any exhaust emissions during operation (no diesel engine exhaust, no combustion products of hydraulic oil), greatly improving the working environment (especially in closed cabins) and the surrounding air quality, and meeting increasingly strict environmental protection regulations (especially when operating in inland rivers, ports, and near cities).


Lower noise and vibration: Electric motors usually operate much quieter than diesel engines or hydraulic systems of the same power, generating less vibration, which improves the working environment for crew members and reduces noise interference to Marine life.


No risk of hydraulic oil leakage: Completely eliminates the risk of hydraulic oil leakage contaminating soil or water bodies.
